Growing Capacity in Schools

Background
The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is committed to schools growing their capacity to optimise educational accessibility for students with disability. In addition to externally available services (NGOs, NDIS service providers, and other Government agencies) DECYP contracts a service to provide Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy consultative support to education providers in Tasmanian government schools and colleges, Early Childhood Inclusion Services, and Support Schools.
Purpose
The purpose of the program is to support education staff to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disability who have associated delays in their physical (gross and fine motor), sensory, and/or psychosocial skills (activities of daily living and life skills).
Exclusions
This program does not undertake individual assessments (except upon a direct request from the Manager of Disability Services), parent education, home programs, or therapeutic treatments.
Services
The 2PS Program may provide professional learning and training support for teachers and support staff; advice and consultative support for school staff to develop appropriate motor, sensory and psychosocial programs within school settings addressing the teacher identified goals for student learning and educational adjustments to teaching programs; assistance for education staff with resource development; and assistance for teachers to screen students for physical, sensory and/or psychosocial needs with a view to maximising engagement and learning.
